牧师宣布婚姻的意义是在于在上帝面前的圣约（theholy convenantinthepresenceofgod），并先后依次问:
willyouloveher/him,comforther/him,honorandkeepher/him,
insicknessandinhealth;
andforsakingallotherskeeponlytoher/him
solongasyoubothshalllive?
是否爱她／他，安慰她／他，荣耀保守她／他，
无论疾病还是健康；
并只守候在她／他身旁，不再寻找别人
只要一息尚存？
依次回答iwill（ido）后，就彼此宣誓:
i,(name),takeyou,(name),我，（名字），愿以你，（名字），
tobemyweddedwife/husband,作我婚姻的妻子／丈夫，
tohaveandtohold,相互拥有扶持，
fromthisdayforward,而今而后，
forbetter,forworse,不论境遇好坏，
forricher,forpoorer,家境贫富，
insicknessandinhealth,生病与否，
toloveandtocherish,誓言相亲相爱，
tilldeathusdopart,至死不分离。
accordingtogod’sholyordinance;正如上帝之神圣命定；
andtheretoipledgeyoumyfaith.此我以信为誓
然后交换“那内在而属灵恩典的外在而可见之记号”
（theoutwardandvisiblesignofaninwardandspiritual
grace）的戒指。接下来是点同心蜡烛，象征二人成为一体，一个家
庭。点完同心蜡烛以后，牧师“奉父子圣灵的名”（inthenameof
thefather,andoftheson,andoftheholyspirit）宣布成为夫妻。仪式最后以祝福和主祷文结束。
